Fabric Swatch Ring

I don't know about you but every time I go to the fabric store I see some fabric that I like and can't remember if I have anything that would coordinate with it.  So I made up this swatch ring that I can take with me and know exactly what is in my stash at home.
This would also work well if you keep your fabric in a drawer or somewhere that you can't easily glance through it.  You will be able to see everything that you have without having to pull it all out.
I cut a bunch of 2" x 3" cards out of cardstock and punched a hole in the top.  Then I wrote down the name and designer of each fabric.  That way if I run out it will be easier to find more online.  I also wrote down the amount that I have on hand so I will know if I have enough for a project.
Using my cutting guide and a rotary cutter, I cut 1 3/4" x 2 1/4" pieces from each kind of fabric that I have on hand.  I rubbed a glue stick onto the back of the fabric and attached it to the front of the card.  Once they were all done, I put them on a jump ring that I had lying around.
Now that I can look through everything easily maybe I will actually use the fabric that has been laying around forever.

I love love love this! I also have a hard time remembering the exact fabric I have at home. Have you ever made a shopping trip, and when you get home your bought more fabric you already had at home? This idea will even save money so you don't 'overlap' on fabric if you dont need it. Thanks for sharing!

It's a good thing that you made this kind of idea. Because I am also having a hard time thinking what stuffs I have in my stash and I think this will surely help me to organize things up.

I'm going to use this idea to catalog my fabric options for custom orders. Much easier than taking a box of fabric along!
Thank you for sharing!

This is so smart - I needed to do something like this for my house and include paint colors too

By the way - I love the look of your blog, the colors are awesome

Umm. This is a *genius* idea! I have come across this problem so many times and have ended up with nearly identical fabrics or fabrics that don't quite match on more than one occasion. THanks for solving a problem!
