Before making egg salad the other day, Jer and I had some fun and turned them into Dinosaur Eggs! He had such a great time we ended up making a second batch. :)
Start by hard boiling your eggs. Once they are cool enough to handle, lightly press down and crack the shell but don't press so hard that you crack the egg itself. Roll it a little to crack the shell all the way around.
For the dye I mixed 1 cup boiling water and 20 drops of green food coloring. The box said to add some vinegar but I didn't have any and it worked fine since we were coloring the egg itself and not the shell. Place the egg in the hot colored water and let sit for a few minutes then remove to a paper plate. Repeat with remaining eggs.
Remove the shells and you have miniature dinosaur eggs!

This is an awesome idea! I love all of your boy-friendly crafty stuff! I can't wait until my little on gets bigger and we'll definitely do this! (unless pinterest blows up and I lose all of my links ):

this is going to be the best. easter. ever. zombeggs! yea!

Oooh! And orangy red for dragon eggs! Yes, we need more crafts for boys. Thank you for sharing.
Such a cool idea. Look forward to trying it out!
What a fabulous idea. I'm going to file this one away to do with my own kids. Thanks.
fun fun...thanks!!
When I was a kid and we coloured easter eggs, I always liked the broken ones best for the fancy pattern inside. Plus I would claim they tasted so much better than the "perfect" eggs :) I'll have to do this for the wee man, he's all over dinosaur brains (cauliflower), dinosaur seeds (peas), dinosaur legs (drumsticks) and ... sausage ;) thanks for the inspiration, brings back mem'ries.
