Mini Vampire Killing Kit

If you couldn't afford a full-size vampire killing kit or if you need something that you can take with you everywhere: then make one of these miniature versions!

To start, mix up some Coffee Fabric Dye and let cool. Follow the directions to dye some White Canvas and let dry overnight.

Print out small labels for your Glass Vials. You will need four labels: Powdered Garlic, Elixir of Vitrol, Serum, and a slightly larger one for Holy Water. Cut a blank sheet of paper down to six 1 1/2 x 3 inch rectangles (these are for the "pages" in the mini bible).

To age your labels and pages, use the foam brush to coat both sides with the remaining coffee dye and bake according to these directions.

Meanwhile, get a Small Unfinished Wooden Box and use a small foam brush to coat with Dark Walnut Wood Stain all over the outside and inside including the hinges and latch. (Make sure you wear gloves or your hands will end up stained too!) Let sit for 15 minutes then use a paper towel or old rag to wipe off the excess stain (again, wear gloves).

Take a 1/4" dowel rod and cut a 1 1/2" piece and a 3/4" piece. Carefully use a knife to shave down all of the sides so they aren't so perfectly rounded. Rub a little of the dark walnut wood stain into the pieces.

Remove the handle from the foam brush that you have been using and shave off the sides so that it isn't as rounded. At the bottom end of the handle (the one that doesn't have the hole in it from the foam brush) use your knife to whittle it to a point. This will be the stake that you use to slay any sparkly vampires. Use a paper towel or old rag to rub with a bit of the dark walnut wood stain.

Allow all of your dyed fabric and stained wood to dry overnight.

Now that everything has dried, you are ready to put together your kit!

Cut down a piece of dark brown leather or velvet to a rectangle just slightly larger than 1 1/2 x 3 inches.. If the fabric that you chose to work with frays, gently burn the edges with a lighter to seal it. Gather the blank pages that you dyed and staple together in the middle and fold in half along the staple. Run some hot glue over the spine of this little book and cover with your pre-cut leather or velvet. Use some antique copper paint to add a small cross to the cover.

For the box lining, cut your dyed canvas into two rectangles that fit snugly inside the box. Glue in place with hot glue.

Take the two small dowel rods that you cut down and place the small one two-thirds of the way up the longer one. Glue together with a small dot of hot glue. Wrap some hemp cord around the cross where the two pieces are joined and tie in the back. Secure with another dot of hot glue and trim off the excess.

Carefully fill your glass vials. If necessary, use a small funnel or eye dropper. The holy water and powdered garlic are pretty self-explanatory. For the serum and elixir of vitrol, color some water with vanilla extract. For mine, the serum was more diluted with water so that they weren't both the exact same color. Cork the vials and dry the outside with a cloth. Use a glue stick to attach the labels.

Put all of the pieces that you have made into your kit and you are ready to go!
