How To Make An Adjustable Necklace Knot

My husband found a set of Tim Holtz Sprocket Gears and thought that they would make cool necklaces and I had to agree. Some of them I just put on a simple chain but for a few of them I decided to make cord necklaces to give them a pop of color. We made a bunch for people at our church since there are gears in our logo. Since everyone prefers different lengths, I chose to make the cord necklaces with an simple adjustable knot.

If you are running the cord through your pendant instead of adding it with a jump ring, you will need to fold the cord in half. Then slide the middle of the cord through the front of your pendant.

Thread the ends of the cords through the loop.

Pull the ends tight and your pendant will always stay in place.

When you are making your necklace, you will only be using one cord but for this tutorial I am using two different colored cords so that you can keep track of which one to use.

Start by making a little loop with your left hand (pink) cord and sliding the right hand (blue) cord through the loop.

Wrap the short end of the LH (pink) cord around both itself and the end of the RH (blue) cord. Wrap it around these two cords twice.

Grab the tail of the LH (pink) cord and slide it under the spiral that you just made and through the loop.

Tighten and you are done with your first knot!

Pull a few inches of your RH (blue) cord through the first adjustable knot. Take the little tail and bend it down a couple of inches to make another loop.

Wrap the RH (blue) tail around both cords.

Slide the RH (blue) tail under the spiral that you just made and through the loop.

Tighten the knot and your necklace should now be fully adjustable.

Snip off the ends close to the knots and adjust your new necklace to your desired length!
