Kool-Aid Wallet

Yes, I am 28-years-old and I carry a Kool-Aid wallet.  What about it?  :)  I started making these about ten years ago but back then I was using packing tape and they didn't look as good and weren't very durable.  Recently I decided to reinvent them with some clear vinyl and I am really happy with the results!

They are a lot of fun and you can make them super girly or appropriate for the guys in your life just by picking a different colored kool-aid packet.  These wallets cost less than $2 each to make which is always my favorite part of a project!

SUPPLIES:
Four envelopes of Kool-Aid
Clear Vinyl (found in the decorator fabric section)
Self-Adhesive Velcro Dots

Cut the vinyl down to these dimensions (I used a rotary cutter and fabric cutting guide):
Four 8 3/4" x 3 1/4"
Two 8 3/4" x 1 1/2"
One 1" x 2"

Start by holding your kool-aid packet upside down and shaking all of the powder to the bottom.  Use an exacto knife to cut along the other end on the back side of the envelope being careful not to cut all the way through to the other side.  Pour the contents into a baggie and set aside to make yourself a drink later.  Smooth the packet flat and reseal it with a piece of tape.

**Make sure that your sewing machine and needle are heavy duty enough to handle sewing through several layers of vinyl before beginning this project.**

For the outside pocket, stack two of the 3 1/4" wide pieces and sew along the top and down the middle.  To sew the middle, I found where the center was and taped some embroidery thread to the sewing machine where the edge of the wallet should be.  You can also use a rubber band but I didn't have one on hand.

The inside pocket is just a little trickier.  Take one of the 3 1/4" pieces and lay one of the 1 1/2" pieces on top with it 1/2" above the bottom of the larger piece.  Sew all along the bottom of the smaller piece.

Lay the piece you just sewed on top of the remaining 3 1/4" piece and sew all along the top edge.  Place the last 1 1/2" piece on top of the other pieces but make sure that it lines up with the bottom edge of the large pieces.  Sew down the middle.

Slide the empty Kool-Aid packets into the pockets that you have sewn with all of the packets facing out.  Lay the inside pocket on top of the outside pocket.

Slide the 1" x 2" piece into the outside pocket.  Center it and leave about 1" hanging out.  Sew through all of the layers along this side, then the bottom, and finally the other side.

Place one of the velcro dots on the inside of the flap that you made and the other one on the outside of the wallet.

Now your wallet is ready to be filled with all of cash and cards.

Just be prepared to have grocery store cashiers ask if you plan on paying for the Kool-Aid in your hand.  Trust me.  It has happened more than once.  :)
