One Yard Colorful Curtains

Now that the living room has a fresh coat of gray paint, it is time to start adding some color! I decided to start with the curtains. Since we have a large picture window I thought making the entire curtains out of colorful patterned fabric would be a bit overwhelming. It would also be expensive. So I decided to take the white curtains that we already had and add a pop of color with a thick fabric strip.

The fabric that I chose was Modern Stripe in Citrus by Robin Zingone made for Robert Kauffman Fabrics. I don't know if they are making it anymore though because the website only has the black and white version now. I found mine on Etsy.

I forgot to take pictures of the process so I had to go back and use a different fabric for this part. :)

Each of my curtains were just under 36" wide so one yard of fabric was perfect. I cut it into four equal strips. They ended up being about 36" wide x 9" tall. Fold and press a 1/2" - 1" hem with a hot iron. Do this on both the top and bottom of your fabric strip.

Lay a quilting ruler along the top of your curtain so your fabric strip will lay straight. I went with 6" from the top. Roll out a line of Stitch Witchery Fusible Webbing a bit below the ruler.

Lay your fabric strip on top of the fusible webbing with the edge right up against the ruler. Make sure the side is hanging over the edge of your curtain by about 1"

Remove the ruler and iron the fabric onto your curtain according to the fusible webbing package directions. Repeat this process adding fusible webbing along the bottom edge as well.

The fusible webbing will hold your fabric in place so you can sew along the top and bottom of your fabric strip.

Fold the sides around the back of the curtain and sew in place.

The strip added the perfect pop of color and it only cost $10!

I am working on my recipe index and I learned to crop images by your instruction. My photos are in a long line now. How do you make your page 4 columns?
