Mad Scientist Light Box

This creepy lighting for the mad scientist's room was inspired by one on Instructables seen here.  We picked up the wooden box for $3 at a surplus store and I used Early American stain on it.

My husband drilled the holes in it and did all of the wiring.  The reason he wired it up was so that we could add a dimmer switch, making it easier to see the inside of the light bulbs.  I have no idea how he did it and I'm not really comfortable sharing tutorials on electrical work here anyway so you will just have to figure that part out yourself.

If you don't want a dimmer switch though, you can just pick up the light bases that have an outlet plug on the end (like these here) for around $1 and plug it into a power strip that you set in the box.  You can pick up funky light bulbs (like these) for around $5 each.

It gives the room a perfectly eerie glow.  Now I just need to find a lock to keep the box closed instead of using a toothpick.  :)
