Snow White Spell Book

I made a spell book similar to this last year using the spell from Macbeth.  This year the witch's brewing area is themed around the witch from Snow White so I made pages using those spells and my potion bottles include the necessary ingredients plus a few extras.

I could have just printed the new pages and put them in the old book but I didn't have time to do a tutorial last year so I went ahead and made a new book entirely.

Start with a hardback book from Dollar Tree and turn to a page somewhere in the middle.  Grab some of the handy coffee mixture and apply to the face of the two open pages, the sides of the book, basically anywhere that you can see with it laying open like this.  I also put some of the coffee mixture into a spray bottle and misted the pages as I flipped through them to soak it a little better.  I also flipped through the pages using each corner of the book to make them curl up a little more.

Once the book is dry, make some coffee dyed canvas that is all around two inches bigger than your open book.  Center your book on top of the canvas and cut out a notch where the spine is so that spot is just big enough to wrap around and cover the binding.

Use hot glue to hold that little tab along the spine in place.  Glue each corner in place as shown above.  Then wrap all of the sides around and glue them in place as well.

Type out your spell pages and cut them down to the size of your book.  Use a foam brush to paint both sides of the paper with the coffee mixture and bake them at 250F for about 3 minutes just like the potion labels.  Let them cool for a couple of minutes and then slide them into the book.  I dyed and baked another page for each side to go underneath the spell pages which made the book look a little bit fuller.  You can glue the pages in place to make them more durable or leave them loose so you can change them each year.

Ahhh! I love this book! I wanted to make a spell book this year, but it doesn't really go with our theme... so I'm saving it for a next year project! :)

Interesting. I like the look of the finished book and the extra touch of the bottles around it.

What happens if someone flips the pages? I imagine that only the page with the spell is altered.
