Poisoned Apples

The witch's area wouldn't be complete without some poisoned apples for Snow White!  They were really easy to make too.

Ingredients:
Small Red Delicious Apples
Twigs
10 Kraft Caramels
1 tsp Water
3-4 Tbsp Hot Fudge
Black Icing Coloring

Use a knife to cut one end of the twigs down to a point.  Insert the pointed end into the top of the apples.  Set aside.

Unwrap the caramels and place in a small saucepan with about 1 teaspoon water.  Place over low heat and stir continuously until caramel is melted.  Add 3-4 Tablespoons hot fudge.  Stir in black icing color until it reaches your desired color.

Carefully pick up an apple and dip into the caramel mixture and rotate until coated.  You can place it directly onto the serving tray if you are using it for display purposes only.  If you will be eating them, place onto a cookie sheet covered with buttered waxed paper to make them easier to remove from the tray.  Repeat with remaining apples.  Place your tray in the freezer for about 1 hour.  Thaw for 15 minutes before serving.

Thank you!!! I have a recipe somewhere for glossy black candied apples, but I've never made it despite its beauty because I just don't enjoy eating them. Now these? These I can totally eat.

I love your blog. Now I want to run out to my apple tree. Yea!

These look great! I wondered if the hot fudge was for taste or was there for consistancy purpose? Basically I want to know if I can leave it out, only because I just dont have any. Thanks!
