Vampire Killing Kit

I have been wanting to make this vampire killing kit for a year now.  Ever since last Halloween when I saw one on Auction Kings.  I meant to work on this throughout the year so that I could get everything just right but I ended up not getting started on it until a couple of weeks ago.  I'm really happy with how it turned out especially considering the fact that I rushed through it.  It was a lot of fun to make and I will probably build an even bigger and better one in the coming years!

I started with a plain wooden box from JoAnn Fabrics.  It was regularly $20 but I had a 40% off coupon.  I put a Dark Walnut stain on it and lined it with burgundy faux suede.  The cross is also from JoAnn's and stained in an Early American finish.

The vials were purchased here through Amazon.  With shipping and everything it was $8.67 and I received 12 of them.  The corks were a little too bright so I soaked them in coffee to age them a bit.  I also scuffed up the vials a bit with sandpaper.  The labels were made the same way as my potion labels.  Suggestions of names for the labels came from Spookyland Crypt.  I filled them with things based on the description they gave.  

Mine are filled with:  Verde Gris - rubbed sage, Vampirism - table salt, Elixir of Vitrol - balsamic vinegar, Serum - vanilla extract diluted with water, Flour of Brimstone - all-purpose flour, Powdered Garlic - powdered garlic.

The Bible is a book from Dollar Tree covered with brown faux suede.  I coffee-stained the edges so it wasn't so white and sealed the book so that it can't be opened.  I found a font that I liked and printed out "Holy Bible" in a size that fit the book along with a clip art cross.  I covered the print out with a piece of clear contact paper and cut out my "stencil" with an exacto knife.  Then I placed it on the book and colored it in with a silver sharpie.  

The steak was a dowel rod, that my husband whittled down to a steak.  I stained it in Early American to match the cross.  The silver goblet came from an antique store for $1.  The Holy Water is a $1 bottle from JoAnn's and filled with actual Holy Water.

The screw-top bottles are also from JoAnn's $1 bin.  The Emetic Tartar for Putric Fever is filled with smoked sea salt and the Agrimony is oregano.
